Heritage Light Series

Turn your city's history into a destination after dark.

Heritage Light Series partners with cities to transform historic landmarks into immersive projection mapping experiences that bring local stories to life at civic scale.

By combining cinematic storytelling, design, and projection technology, we help communities create nighttime attractions that draw visitors, strengthen local pride, and give historic places a new kind of presence.

This is not a traveling show or a one-size-fits-all template. Every Heritage Light Series project is custom-built around the history, identity, and goals of the city it serves.

Whether your community wants to activate a downtown landmark, create a heritage tourism anchor, or reintroduce residents to the story of where they live, we help shape the concept from first discovery through launch.

What is Heritage Light Series?

What is Heritage Light Series?

Heritage Light Series is a city-focused offering built for communities that want to turn history into a lasting public experience.

We work with cities, Main Street organizations, museums, tourism leaders, and civic partners to create custom nighttime shows that use projection mapping to transform historic architecture into a living canvas. These experiences can combine film, animation, sound, historical interpretation, and environmental design to create something that feels both emotionally resonant and destination-worthy.

What it is designed to do

A lasting public story experience for the city around it.

  • Attract visitors
  • Create an after-dark cultural draw
  • Support local businesses
  • Celebrate local identity
  • Re-engage residents with the meaning of place

Why cities pursue projects like this

Historic places already hold meaning. A projection mapping experience gives that meaning a powerful public form.

01

Strengthen heritage tourism

Create a reason for visitors to stop, stay longer, and come back.

02

Activate historic landmarks

Use architecture as a storytelling surface, not just a backdrop.

03

Build local pride

Give residents a shared experience rooted in their own community story.

04

Support downtown energy

Create new foot traffic for restaurants, shops, hotels, and surrounding businesses.

05

Offer something distinctive

Stand apart from neighboring communities with a signature experience that cannot be copied from a template.

06

Create a long-term civic asset

Build something designed for repeat viewing, seasonal programming, and ongoing cultural value.

How we work

From discovery to launch in a disciplined sequence.

Every project is different, but our process is designed to move from discovery to launch in a clear, disciplined way.

Phase 1$15,000-$25,000

Discovery

This is where we determine whether the project has the right story, site, and strategic fit.

  • Stakeholder interviews and story discovery
  • Site selection and feasibility review
  • Audience and tourism goal alignment
  • A council-ready concept deck
  • Budget bands and preliminary production timeline

By the end of this phase, your city has a clear sense of what the opportunity is, what it could become, and what it would take to move forward.

Phase 2

Story & Production Design

Once the concept is approved, we shape the narrative and the experience itself.

  • Locking the narrative framework
  • Identifying key historical beats and emotional arcs
  • Developing the show format and visual language
  • Planning how the installation supports the story
  • Aligning production needs with technical realities

This is where a promising idea becomes a real show concept.

Phase 3

Production & Post

This is the filmmaking and content creation phase.

  • Film and produce the show
  • Create the visual and sound assets needed for projection
  • Edit and finish projection-ready masters
  • Produce supporting cutdowns and media for launch, promotion, and public communication

The goal is to create content that is cinematic, technically sound, and built specifically for the site it will inhabit.

Phase 4

Installation & Launch Support

We help carry the project from production into public reality.

  • Coordination with the city and technical integrator
  • Testing, alignment, and on-site calibration support
  • Audio and run-of-show coordination
  • Launch planning
  • Operating handoff for long-term use

A successful project does not end at delivery. It needs a clean path to opening night and beyond.

Partner fit

What makes a strong city partner

We are selective about Heritage Light Series projects because these experiences work best when the partnership is right.

We are most interested in projects where story, place, and public purpose all align.

  • A landmark with visual and symbolic potential
  • A story the community genuinely cares about
  • Civic or nonprofit leadership support
  • A desire to build something lasting
  • Tourism, downtown, or cultural activation goals
  • A willingness to develop the project thoughtfully rather than rush it

Project readiness

What your city should be ready for

The best outcomes happen when there is clarity around process, leadership, and collaboration.

We can guide the work, but the strongest projects are built with local insight and local buy-in.

  • A primary point of contact
  • Access to local historians, story stakeholders, or archives
  • Support in evaluating viable landmarks or sites
  • Coordination with city departments or nonprofit partners as needed
  • Alignment around goals, budget, and timeline
  • Openness to a discovery-led process before jumping to production

What this can become

A long-term civic asset with room to grow.

In the right city, a successful Heritage Light Series project becomes part of how people gather, remember, and introduce the place to others.

  • A heritage tourism anchor
  • A recurring nighttime attraction
  • A downtown activation tool
  • A museum or landmark extension
  • A public storytelling platform
  • A new civic tradition

Example project

Texas Legacy in Lights - Gonzales, Texas

Texas Legacy in Lights is a permanent projection mapping experience created around the history of Gonzales and its role in the Texas Revolution. Developed as a large-scale public story experience, the project uses cinematic imagery, reenactment, sound, and mapped projection to transform the Gonzales Memorial Museum into a living historical canvas.

The project reflects the kind of work Heritage Light Series is built to support: place-based storytelling, long-term public engagement, and civic experiences rooted in local history.

Why we do this

We believe communities deserve to see their stories told with ambition, care, and emotional power.

Too often, local history is treated like a plaque, a brochure, or a room people pass through on the way to something else. We think it can be more than that. We think history can become an experience people feel, remember, and return to.

That is what Heritage Light Series is built to do.

Start with Discovery

Start with Discovery

If your city is considering a heritage tourism attraction, a downtown activation project, or a projection mapping experience for a historic landmark, the best place to begin is Discovery.

We will help determine whether the site, story, and public goals are the right fit - and what it would take to bring the project to life.
